Borrowed from Hindustani آبکار (ābkār) / आबकार (ābkār), from Classical Persian آبکار (ābkār), from آب (āb, “water”) (from Middle Persian ʾp̄ (āp, “water”), from Old Persian āpi-, akin to Avestan 𐬁𐬟𐬱 (āfš, “water”), Sanskrit अप् (ap, “water”), Lithuanian ùpė, Old Prussian appi (“river”)) + کار (kâr, “does”), akin to Sanskrit कर (kara, “doing, giving, effecting”).
