Etymology
From French Ayn, recorded earlier as Latin Ainum, presumably from an uncertain Gaulish or Ancient Ligurian etymon, *aginn (“height, high place”), possibly from pre-Celtic *Agannus (“rock”), perhaps from the same ultimate origin as the place Aginnum.
