From Middle English electuarie, eletuarie, electuary, from Latin electuarium, from Ancient Greek ἐκλείκτον (ekleíkton, “medicine which is licked away”), from ἐκλείχω (ekleíkhō, “to lick up”), from ἐκ (ek, “out, from”) + λείχω (leíkhō, “to lick”). Doublet of lekvar.
