Borrowed from Late Latin mygale (“field mouse”) (Vetus Latina), from Ancient Greek μυγαλέη (mugaléē, “shrew”) (used in the Septuagint to translate Hebrew אֲנָקָה, now generally thought to indicate a gecko or similar small reptile).
