From Latin Neapolis, from Ancient Greek Νεάπολις (Neápolis), from νέα (néa, “new”) + πόλις (pólis, “city”). Equivalent to neo- + -polis. Doublet of Nabeul, Nablus, Naples, Napoli, and Neapoli.
