1. To color or describe too strongly.

   “OK, you've painted me a picture well enough; you don't need to overpaint it.”

2. To apply the final layers of paint over underpainting.
3. To paint over (something).

   “This antique chair's inlays have been overpainted, but we can restore its finish.”

4. To paint too much: with too thick a coating of paint.

   “This antique chair has been overpainted to the point that you can't discern the carved details.”

5. To erase by drawing graphics over the top.
