Definition of tenson

1 sense · 1 part of speech

noun

  1. A form of lyric poem used by troubadours in Provençal in which two voices present different sides of an argument, in alternate stanzas, lines, or groups of lines with identical structure.
“In Gryll Grange, however, the tenson functions as the basis for the advancement of the plot (which is the production of an Aristophanic comedy) and characterises the continual debate between what is uttered (e.g^([sic]) the name Palestine Soup) and what is not uttered (the word-associational etymology that Dr. Opimian offers for the name).”
